What's New in Secrets of the Golden Lake
Pragmatic Play released this entry on 8 April 2024, building it with Reel Kingdom as part of the long-running Big Bass series. The grid is 5 reels by 3 rows with 10 fixed paylines, so wins come from matching symbols along set lines.
The biggest change is the setting. Instead of the usual angler's boat and tackle box, the game borrows from medieval, Arthurian legend, with a mysterious lake at its centre. The fishing idea is still there, but it sits inside a quest-style story.
Money symbols and Fisherman Wilds are the key bonus-related symbols. A drawn Secrets of the Golden Lake card can also send play to a special lake feature, which gives the slot two ways into its bonus content. Compared with other Big Bass titles, the 10-payline layout is compact and the volatility is high.

Hooked Bass Scatter: Triggering the Bonus
How many scatters you need
Landing three, four or five scatters starts the free spins round. One source reports that these counts award 10, 15 and 20 spins respectively, while other reviews only describe three scatters giving 10 spins. Treat the higher tiers as reported rather than confirmed and check the in-game paytable.
Ante Bet and bonus buy
The optional Ante Bet adds 50% to the stake and puts extra scatters on the reels, which raises the chance of triggering the round. It does not guarantee a trigger, and each spin simply costs more.
Bonus buy availability depends on jurisdiction and operator. One source says it is not offered in the UK, so do not count on it when playing from Britain.
Golden Lake Free Spins: The 10-Spin Round
The Golden Lake round opens with 10 spins. What makes it distinct is the reel set: the lake reels contain only money symbols and Fisherman Wilds. Ordinary low-paying symbols drop out, so each spin is about whether money symbols appear and whether a Wild turns up to collect them.
That design explains the high volatility. Many spins can look quiet, then a single spin with several money symbols and a Wild can change the total. The result is uneven by nature, and short sessions can end far from the average.
The 5,000x cap applies to the stake and limits what the bonus rounds can pay in total. If a round reaches the cap, it ends at that figure.
Fisherman Wild Collection
Collecting money symbols
When a Fisherman Wild lands alongside money symbols, it collects their values. Money symbols alone do nothing until a Wild is present, so a screen full of them without a Wild is a missed opportunity.
Multipliers and extra spins
In the free spins, one review says that every fourth Fisherman Wild adds a multiplier and can also add extra spins. This comes from a single description, so verify the exact progression in the game's help screen before relying on it.
Because the lake reels hold only money symbols and Wilds, the number of Fisherman Wilds in a round shapes the outcome more than anything else.
How Scatter Respins Work
Scatter Respins are listed among the game's features, alongside the card-based route into the lake. The Secrets of the Golden Lake cards are the second way into the bonus: a drawn card can send play to the lake reel set without the usual scatter trigger.
We do not have a verified step-by-step description of how the respins award or lock symbols, and guessing would only mislead. The paytable inside the game is the reliable source for the exact respin rules.
Open the info menu before betting real money. It confirms scatter tiers, respin rules and the Wild multiplier steps in the version you are playing.
RTP and Volatility
The listed RTP is 96.07%. One site shows 96.71%, which looks like an outlier, so 96.07% is the figure to use. RTP is a long-run theoretical average across vast numbers of spins, not a prediction for one session.
| Feature | Value |
|---|---|
| RTP | 96.07% |
| Volatility | High |
| Max win | 5,000x stake |
| Paylines | 10 fixed |
| Release | 8 April 2024 |
High volatility means long stretches without much return are normal, followed by occasional larger hits. Set a budget you can afford to lose and stop when you reach it.

FAQ
How do you trigger Golden Lake Free Spins?
Land three or more scatters on the reels, or have a drawn Secrets of the Golden Lake card send play to the lake feature. The optional Ante Bet raises the stake by 50% and adds extra scatters, which improves the odds of the scatter route without guaranteeing it.
How many free spins do you get in the Golden Lake bonus?
The round starts with 10 spins on reels holding only money symbols and Fisherman Wilds. One source reports 15 or 20 spins for four or five scatters, and one review says Wilds can add extra spins later, so confirm the tiers in the paytable.
Is bonus buy available to UK players?
One source says bonus buy is not offered in the UK, and availability varies by operator and jurisdiction. If you do not see a buy option in the game menu, the only way into the bonus is through scatters or a drawn card.
Can I try the slot without staking real money?
A free demo exists and is usually found in the demo mode of licensed casinos or on slot review sites. It is useful for learning how the cards and Wilds behave, but it carries no real winnings.
